How to Make Round Steak Dinner in a Crock Pot

Aunt Lou here.

It seems that you, my dear readers, love our Easy Crock Pot Round Steak recipe as much as we do! So, when Cris and I were brainstorming new recipe ideas, it just made sense to take this beloved recipe and take it up a notch by making it into a one pot meal. And now you have this delicious Crock Pot Round Steak Dinner!

I only used 1.5 lbs of meat this time. If you need more portions, you can easily double this recipe. You might see a full bag of baby carrots in the ingredients list and think that is a lot for four servings. However, my kids love carrots cooked this way, so the carrots were gobbled up right quick. If you would prefer to use less carrots for your dinner, feel free. I just wanted to make sure plenty were available…when kiddos love veggies cooked a certain way, every momma knows to make sure there are plenty there for the taking!

What You Will Need

Ingredients Needed

  • 1.5 lbs round steak
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 1 medium onion, quartered
  • 16 oz bag baby carrots
  • 1.5 oz packet onion soup mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 10.75 cream of mushroom soup

Equipment Needed

Time Needed

  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cooking Time: 4 to 6 hours on low (If at all possible, you will want to cook this on low. Cooking beef low and slow makes it incredibly tender. However, if you have no other choice, you could cook this recipe on high for 2 to 3 hours. Your round steak just may not be as tender as it would be if you had time to cook it on low.)

Hi. The package of round steak I have is already cut in to strips. Will they work? Adjust time? Thank you!

I haven’t tried this with round steak cut into strips, but I think it could work. The timing will probably be a little less since the meat is in strips, so watch it closely the first time you make it and adjust it as needed. Once the meat and veggies are all fork tender, it should be good to go! If you give it a try, let me know how it turns out.

  2. Hello! Could I use a ranch packet in place of the onion packet?

I haven’t tried making this recipe with that substitution, but I think it could work. It would definitely change the flavor of the recipe but sounds yummy! If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!

  3. I hate cooking. My brain doesnโ€™t have the cooking chip! Thank you for all the incredibly delicious and easy recipes you post. They have been a Godsend for me & my family!
