How to Make Tomato Mac in a Crock Pot
Aunt Lou here.
When we were growing up, Cris always loved tomato mac. I was more of a mac ‘n cheese kind of girl, so I always left the tomato mac to her. When Cris and I were talking about recipes to try the other day, she mentioned that I should make Crock Pot Tomato Mac. I asked for her stove top recipe and said I would give it a shot in the crock pot. Man oh man! I didn’t know what I was missing out on!
One of the most frequently asked questions we get when we post a crock pot recipe that uses pasta cooked al dente is, “Can I make this without cooking the pasta first?” So, I thought I would give this recipe a shot with uncooked pasta. While using the uncooked pasta does require you to stir it a couple of times, that is quite a bit easier (and uses fewer dishes) than cooking the pasta al dente on the stove. The stirring is essential, as I learned the hard way. Without stirring once or twice, the macaroni on the bottom and sides will get mushy while the top and middle macaroni won’t be done. However, with just a couple stirs, all the macaroni cooks up beautifully!

Crock Pot Tomato Mac
Ingredients
- 2 cups uncooked macaroni
- 8 oz can tomato sauce
- 28 oz Can Whole Tomatoes undrained
Instructions
- Put your 2 cups uncooked macaroni in a lightly greased 3 or 4 quart slow cooker.
- Pour your 8 oz can tomato sauce on top.
- Take a sharp knife and cut your 28 oz Can Whole Tomatoes into halves or quarters and pour juices and tomato pieces into your slow cooker. (I cut the tomatoes in the can. If you would rather cut them on a cutting board, you can pour the juices from the can into the slow cooker first and then cut the tomatoes on a cutting board before putting them in the slow cooker.)
- Stir everything together until well combined.
- Cover and cook on high for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring at least twice. It is done when your macaroni has reached your desired tenderness.
